Snow in Paris
I've been living in Paris for nearly four years now, and in that time it's snowed I think five times (in the centre of Paris) and 'stuck' to the ground maybe twice. In other words, it's not a common thing, and for a resident it makes everything look suddenly very strange. Driving becomes even more amusing than usual. In winter 2009 though, it happened twice, so the last time (Feb 2) I grabbed the camera and some snow boots and set out for a lazy loop walking from my apartment around some of the city streets. By about 11am the snow turned to rain and the white disappeared, but until then it was pretty special. -
End of WInter
This is another set taken over the course of a couple of hours as I wandered in and around the Tuileries gardens just adjacent to the Louvre. It had snowed earlier in the week and stuck to the parks with a thin crunchy crust. Jan 10, 2009 -
Snow in Paris - Feb 2010
I'm sure there's some great statistics about how this is the coldest winter since 1496 or so. Paris is usually very mild, when it snows people tend to freak out and start driving into walls. This winter there's been at least half a dozen days when the snow's stuck at least for a few hours, sometimes days.
